Words have a meaning that is generally accepted by all individuals sharing or using a specific language. Invented words, however, such as puns, are created with the purpose of giving delight or entertainment. Although puns are often thought to be the |lowest form of humour|, they demand considerable linguistic information and background knowledge to understand and enjoy them. As distinct from other dictionaries whose entries are real English words susceptible of word play, e.g. butter = She wanted to go, butter mother wouldn't let her; juice = Population of Israel (J.S.Crosbie, Dictionary of Puns), this dictionary contains well over 1.000 homophonic one-word puns followed by their corresponding definition, even though some of them are self-explanatory like 'abdominable', 'afictionado', ́boath`, 'funtastic' or 'rejoyce'. Besides being amusing, puns can also be applied to real-life situations, as shown in my other Amazon book, A Handful of Punning Mini Stories.
